We only use materials from Cambodia. This means that people can carry out future repairs themselves.
It all starts with a conversation. Our local NGO talks to the village elders and together they decide which families will receive help. These are usually families who have had to move in with neighbours during the monsoon season, or families whose children do not have a safe and dry place to do their homework.
We then promise to help these families. For 2025, we have again promised 10 families a new home. Dalin (our local translator and allround organiser) then passes on the good news to the families:
Before we arrive, the foundations are already being laid locally, the support pillars are being erected and the base frame for the house is being completed.
Construction: scaffolding and roof first: to prevent injury to helpers, stable scaffolding is erected. For reasons of time, we can also have the roof completed before our arrival:
We roll up our sleeves: there are many steps to complete, but everything is perfectly prepared: cordless screwdrivers are charged, stair treads are ready, all boards are carefully sorted, paint buckets are stirred, and local helpers are waiting for us.
Lunch together with the village community
A house blessing by monks is always a highlight – and very important to people.
Fun is also important
The village holds a blessing ceremony together with the helpers.
Gratitude at the handover of the house
